Prices for drilling and casing wells are usually quoted by the foot and may vary according to the type of material and difficulty of drilling. For example, air rotary drillers can efficiently penetrate hard, consolidated rocks like granite, sandstone, etc. but have difficulty with sand, gravel, or boulders that collapse when drilled. Total cost is primarily a function of the depth of the well. The cost of wells in Alaska will usually be in the range of $3,000 to $8,000. Cost items for residential wells typically are:

Set-up or mobilization charges Drilling price Cost of casing & drive shoe Annular seal placed around the casing	Cost of liner and well screens Capping the well County and State fees Other costs that may result from unusual or unforeseen conditions encountered while drilling

		Water system components such as pump, pipe, wire, pressure tank, controls, well cap, installation labor, permits, and trenching are difficult to design and price without first knowing well depth and capacity and distance and elevation between the well and the home. These costs add $1800 to $3000 to the total water system cost.
